Best Teaching Text Book Out There!, February 9, 2009

By  Buman (USA) - See all my reviews

It is thanks to this Text Book that I am able to really learn Lakota. The author, Mr. Jan Ullrich is simply amazing and has managed to do what very few other methods do: you really are learning and memorizing. You will also be speaking from the heart. In my personal opinion this Text Book is definitively for adults as well. I have nothing but praise that I have found the LLC Text books and their CDs. I also have Text book #2. These text books (1 and 2) are FIVE star material!!!

Great for learning words and pronunciation, February 12, 2010

By  David Little Beaver

This book is great. It contains over 400 Lakota words organized according to the lessons in the textbook. It really helps to look buy the CD with the book. You can look at how the words are spelled when you first listen to the CD. I listen to every lesson several times while looking at the words. Then I take the CD in my car and listen again, imagining the words and the pictures. Each word is printed on a picture of the thing it represents so it is a great way of learning both pronunciation and meaning. I also have the Level 2 and it goes much further in teaching pronunciation. The writing system is great and it is based on the standard Lakota spelling used in the New Lakota Dictionary. Great for children, March 20, 2008

By Lady Lizard - See all my reviews

I am a Lakota woman. I am a natural speaker and I speak the language quite well. I learned it while growing up on a Lakota "Sioux" reservation. I got this book because I want to teach my four year old niece the language. She hasn't been exposed very much to it. I plan to teach her when I go home from college for the summer. I'm very excited to use this book to help teach my niece. I've looked through it and find that I can trust it. I know she well love the coloring. The only reason I gave it four stars rather then five is that I can't give the actual book to my niece. This is more of a teachers reference and childrens learning book in one. The coloring pages have important teachers notes on the back of some of them so I can't even tear out the pages to give to her. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to photocopy the coloring pages or just hand the book over to her. That's the only downfall, but otherwise, it's great.
